Academic staff union of universities, university of Lagos chapter today a staged a rally to sensitize the university’s management over their plights in the institution.
The grievances listed by the union include: no notional promotion, no accumulated leave, no vacancy, no promotion, and no PhD no confirmation, arbitrariness in promotion and non-democratization of departmental heads.
The chairman of the union, doctor Adelaja Odukoya, senior lecturer, department of political science said if the issue raised were not addressed the lecturers would be forced to embark on total strike action after its national executive meeting taking place December 6 and 8.
Odukoya explained that their action was not a protest but a rally to sensitize the university about their displeasure concerning the issue raised.
Reacting to the demands of the union the acting vice- chancellor, deputy vice- chancellor professor Babajide Alo said the rally might not be necessary if only they would allow the administration to tell them what has been done to address their grievances.
However, despite his efforts to clarify what the management had done, the academic staff still went ahead with the rally moving from one faculty to another
