Why Do Women Like Bad Boys?

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard women say they want a “corporate thug” or have a “thug passion.” Personally, I don’t think “corporate thugs” really exist – it just seems like an oxymoron to me. However, I think I understand what they mean by it. They want a man with street sensibilities and a graduate degree. But honestly, how often do you come across a true “thug” who wears a suit to work everyday?
Now, let me preface this post by saying I have a bias against thug dudes. I admit it. I know I’m judging a book by its cover, and that’s wrong, but I’ve done it. I’ve never been attracted to the “bad boy” type. I can appreciate their “alpha dog” appeal, but I’ve never wanted to date one.
Other women, however, may like a man with some “street edge.” I get it. Most women are attracted to men who seem like they can handle themselves, and who can “handle” them too…whether it’s in the form of physical protection or sexual prowess. I think maybe when I was in my early 20’s, you could have convinced me that “street” was hot in some way; at that age, attraction and “excitement” were more important than say…a credit score. But now, they just look silly to me.
Maybe “edge” and “thug” are a bit different. I think all men should be able to handle themselves and have some street smarts or common sense, not just “hood” dudes or self-proclaimed bad boys. You don’t have to have a lot of muscles to be a “real” man. Being a bad boy shouldn’t make you attractive or edgy, yet I find a lot of women gravitate towards men who look more like felons than professors. He has to be a “soldier.” I know women subconsciously test men for strength, leadership abilities and overall dominance; it’s the “survival of the fittest” principle at its core. We don’t want a man we can walk all over who can’t stand up for himself, because if he can’t stand up to us, how can he protect us? Alpha male. Again, I get it.
But does “thuggery” equal strength? Do muscles automatically make you an alpha male? Are educated men who have financial security less attractive because they can crush you with their intellect and their wallet rather than with their fists?
I don’t know if it’s just me but most men I’ve met who appear to be “bad boys” are not the best guys to date. I once read that even though a woman may logically know these types are a bad choice, biologically and culturally they’ve been bred through thousands of years of evolution to respond positively to dominant, alpha male traits on a primal, unthinking level. I think this is totally true because if we were to use our right mind, the Beta Male would seem way more attractive to us.
The Beta Male is the safe one: responsible, maybe not as physically dominating, but is intelligent and reliable. Unfortunately, he seems to be our second choice. The nerdy doctor is no where near as fine as Pookie, so we overlook him hoping that we can tame the drug dealer instead. We pass over an “Obama” type because he doesn’t possess the “street” or “thug” traits we seek. I’m not saying all women do this, but for those who do, I’m wondering why?
As grown women, shouldn’t we want the man who can stimulate us mentally and not just physically? Who could probably walk into a bank armed with a good credit score and down payment for a house and who has a healthy portfolio and 401K? I’m not talking about someone you simply have sex with and keep as your dirty little secret. Is it hot to be booed up with a guy who can probably fight, but can’t walk into a job interview and nail it? Don’t get me wrong, there are corporate men out there who can rock a suit just as well as some jeans and Timbs swag on the weekend. I’m not talking about them. I like versatile men just as much as the next woman. But Pookie n’em get no play from me.
Again, I know I may be wrong in my assessment, and I can admit when I’m being narrow-minded…but is it just me? I know I may catch hell for this post, but somebody enlighten me – what am I missing? *cue from the beat99fm hot talk*

Girls with Boyfriends - What to do?

So I met this really beautiful girl a few weeks ago; we've been chatting on and off for about a year and had started getting closer. Right before I summon up the courage to ask her out, she starts to warn me that she has a boyfriend.
WTF!!! Why didn't she say something earlier? Why is she telling me this now?
I'm sure a lot of guys have found themselves in this position; where the babe you want is in a committed relationship. How do you handle it? Do you try to breakup her other relationship? Or do you just be patient hoping that her eyes will open and she will pick you instead? Maybe your style is to keep wooing her, after all, she doesn't mind the attention *cue from beat99.9fm

UNILAG, CBN GRAPPLE WITH LAND RECLAMATION, SEEK FG’S ATTENTION

Contrary to expectations of a possible abandonment of the construction of 8-storey 5 star hostel accommodation by the Central Bank of Nigeria at University of Lagos, Akoka campus work has continued.
Fears heightened on the construction of the 8-storey faculty building shortly after the former CBN Governor, Mallam Lamido Sanusi Lamido under whose tenure the project was approved resigned from office in a controversial manner.
The twin project, when completed, the Faculty building will have a basement, car park, office spaces, lecture rooms, libraries, Information and Communication Technology (ICT) facilities and rooftop space for relaxation among others while the Five-Star Hostel will have 150 single occupancy rooms, 50 double occupancy rooms, a gym, laundry, meeting rooms, restaurant, and the rooftop relaxation facility.
The two buildings would be fully equipped with state of the art technology and constructed to ensure accessibility by physically challenged individuals.
A lull observed at the project site shortly after the ex-CBN Governor resigned has changed as workmen were seen at the site working during the minister’s impact assessment tour of federal government owned institution in Lagos State.
Vice Chancellor of the institution, Professor Rahamon Bello in his during a visit by the Minister of Education, Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau to the university within the past week informed the minister of the various challenges facing the 52 year.
According to the VC top among issues of immediate concern to the university is the paucity of funds that had affected effective maintenance of structures and infrastructure at the first Generation University.
He solicited the assistance of the Minister in securing funding from the Ecological Fund Office for land reclamation from the lagoon.
Addressing the minister further during the impact assessment tour of the state, Bello said that the reclamation had become necessary because the school did not have any land left for infrastructural development due its proximity to the lagoon.
“We need to start massive land reclamation from the lagoon; we have approached the Ecological Fund Office for help but it has not yielded results. We seek your intervention in this regard; we spend a lot of money guarding the waterfront because we cannot have more land acquired.’’
Buttressing his request, the VC said sand pilling on the 8-storey had been enormous and completed while on the sand pilling of the 7-storey ultra-modern hostel has commenced.
Lamenting on the inadequacy of dry land and paucity of funds facing the institution, Bello explained that this had resulted in poor maintenance of the existing structures.
He said to cushion and arrest the situation, the university has adopted the city university design whereby all new structures on the campus would be 12 floors in order to maximise the available land, saying that implication it meant that execution of projects would gulp more money and intervention from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund).
Explaining the negative impact of the land constraints as it affects students’ accommodation, the VC said of the 57,183 populations of students, the institution could only provide bed spaces for less than 10, 000 of its students.
He said that the university was established in 1962 with only three faculties now runs 83 programmes in 12 faculties, adding that as the number was increasing that had not been corresponding rise and expansion of infrastructure to adequately cater for the huge student population.
Shekarau, who said government as the government has demonstrated the will to increase access to education for a good number of Nigerian, assured that the quality of such education would be adequately protected.
He added that since there was no limit to growth, there would always be the challenge of access and the need to expand infrastructure would always be there to tackle.
The minister assured that the act that establishes the TETFund had been amended to cater for growing infrastructure needs of education at the tertiary level.
Daily Independent sighted the discharge of pre-fabricated concrete beams at the swampy work yard of Quintec Construction Limited, the contractor handing project meant for delivery in four years.
The project when completed will open up the university environment with an access road from the St. Finbarrs Road, in Bariga Local Council Development Area, LCDA, to the institution. The road, it was learnt, would reduce traffic at the university’s main gate as well as provide quicker entry from the Bariga axis.

 UNILAG ASUU
Academic staff union of universities, university of Lagos chapter today a staged a rally to sensitize the university’s management over their plights in the institution.
The grievances listed by the union include: no notional promotion, no accumulated leave, no vacancy, no promotion, and no PhD no confirmation, arbitrariness in promotion and non-democratization of departmental heads.
The chairman of the union, doctor Adelaja Odukoya, senior lecturer, department of political science said if the issue raised were not addressed the lecturers would be forced to embark on total strike action after its national executive meeting taking place December 6 and 8.
Odukoya explained that their action was not a protest but a rally to sensitize the university about their displeasure concerning the issue raised.
Reacting to the demands of the union the acting vice- chancellor, deputy vice- chancellor professor Babajide Alo said the rally might not be necessary if only they would allow the administration to tell them what has been done to address their grievances.
However, despite his efforts to clarify what the management had done, the academic staff still went ahead with the rally moving from one faculty to another
